Pilot Training with Flight Simulators

By: Ian Stephens

Flying an aircraft is an experience which is full of adventure and excitement. Many young kids, especially boys, dream of becoming pilots when they grow up. If you also have this dream then you can fulfill it with the help of airline pilot training conducted by technical colleges. This training is meant for you if you have a deep desire to fly an aircraft. You cannot buy your own aircraft as it is too expensive but you can fly one which is owned or hired by these technical colleges in order to fulfill your dreams. This training includes all the important technical and theoretical aspects involved in flying an aircraft.

These colleges undertake pilot training with the help of professional and certified instructors. There are certain laid down rules before a person can obtain a pilot’s license. These rules are laid down by the Federal Aviation Administration, USA. A person should be minimum 17 years before he can undergo aircraft training. He must be able to speak the English language. He should be able to pass a medical exam and a written knowledge exam. Only after he fulfills these criteria and passes a flying exam can he obtain a pilot’s license.

These colleges can train you in fixed wings or rotary aircraft flying. Some even specialize in training to fly helicopters. Beginners get admission in basic pilot training programs. After that they can graduate to learning how to fly lighter aircrafts. Then comes the private aircraft training. In private training, they undergo highly specialized ground training.

The highest certification that the pilots can try and achieve in the aviation industry is ATP certification where the pilots are trained to fly an aircraft in difficult terrain and environmental conditions. This training is conducted on a one to one basis with experienced instructors. Airline pilot training is extensive and only with this training can a pilot become eligible to fly an aeroplane.

These days, pilots are trained with the help of flight simulators. Flight sim training involves training with the help of games which are very realistic and accurate. These games duplicate airplane interiors including the cockpit to the T. Even the scenes outside the plane are replicated. They are also able to exactly position airports and nearby areas accurately, so that the trainee pilots can undergo aircraft training easily and as realistically as possible.

With flight sim training, pilots are taught how to use the controls in an airplane, how to read them and other important aspects of navigation. This training forms the base before they can be trained with the help of an actual aircraft. As a result of this training, the cost of airline pilot training can be reduced drastically. This is because training with the help of an actual aircraft requires lot of expenditure on fuel, airplane and experienced instructors and support staff.

The flight simulator training also eliminates the danger to the pilot’s life and the cost involved. This is because in training with the help of a real aircraft involves the possibility of the aircraft facing a multitude of problems like risky weather conditions, problems during landing, danger of engine failure etc. If this happens the pilot’s life is in danger and the airplane can also be damaged. Thus, this aircraft training can train a pilot in experiencing how it is to be airborne in the sky.
